How to wash bras

Bras are an essential item in a woman's closet, but they often don't get the care they deserve. Washing bras correctly not only prolongs their use, but also ensures that they maintain their shape and support. In this guide we provide a short guide showing you how to wash bras efficiently and with care, ensuring they stay in perfect condition for longer.

How to wash bras in the washing machine

Although washing bras by hand is ideal, we understand that sometimes time is limited. So, should you decide to use the washing machine, follow these tips to minimize damage:

1. Use a mesh or laundry net: place bras in a laundry bag for delicate clothing. This will protect the garments from sudden movements and prevent them from getting caught on other pieces of clothing.

2. Select the right cycle: choose a wash cycle for delicate clothes and use cold or warm water. And don't forget to use a mild detergent.

3. Avoid heavy spin: set the washer for gentle or no spin to avoid damaging the cups and elastics.

4. Dry carefully: follow the same drying recommendations as for hand washing: press with a towel and air dry.

How to wash bras by hand

Washing bras by hand is the best way to maintain their quality. From Gisela we advise you to follow the following steps:

1. Gather the necessary materials: a mild detergent or specific detergent for delicate clothes; a container with warm (never hot) water; and a clean towel.

2. Prepare the bra: close the bra hooks to prevent them from catching on other fabrics. If the bra has padded cups, check the specific care instructions.

3. Soak the bra: fill the container with warm water and add a small amount of detergent. Then insert the bra and let it soak for 10-15 minutes to allow the detergent to work on dirt and oils.

4. Wash the bra: gently rub the fabric with your hands, paying special attention to the dirtiest areas, such as the cups and band. Try to avoid twisting or stretching the bra, as this may deform it.

5. Rinse well: soak the bra in clean water several times until all detergent is removed. Make sure that no residue remains, as this can irritate the skin and damage the fabric.

6. Dry gently: place the bra on a clean towel and press gently to absorb excess water. Do not wring the garment. Finally, air dry the bra, preferably on a flat surface in the shade. Avoid using tumble dryers or direct exposure to the sun, as this can damage the fabric and elastic.

Why is it important to wash bras correctly?

Bras are in direct contact with the skin and therefore absorb sweat, body oils and residues from products such as lotions and deodorants. Proper washing helps to remove these impurities, prevents skin irritation and keeps the garment fresh and comfortable. In addition, proper care preserves the elasticity and structure of the bra, thus avoiding deformation and premature wear.
